2. The John Blackburn Home
The house of John Blackburn(3), son of Thomas Blackburn(2),
probably constructed in the late 18th century. Thomas Blackburn owned the
land originally and split the property after his son's marriage so that John
Blackburn and family could have their own home. The original Thomas
Blackburn homestead was close by, but only remnants remain. It stands in an apple
orchard, about 1/4 mile up a gravel lane on the south side of Potato Road, beside Opossum
Creek. To get there, go west on Church St. (which becomes Potato Rd.) for 1.4 miles from
the center of the village of Bendersville (About 12 mi. N. of Gettysburg), in Menallen
Twp., northern Adams County, PA.
