Private Jesse L. Bewley was originally reported as a deserter on July 16, 1865 when in reality he was captured at the Battle of Reams Station, VA.

According to Prisoner of War Records, Jesse L. Bewley was captured at Ream's Station, Va, June 29, 1864. He escaped from Salisbury, N.C. Nov. 5, 1864 and reported to Provost Marshall. Knoxville, TN. on Dec. 27 1864. Charge of desertion was removed May 8, 1896 and he was honorably discharged.
